RAMBAN, Apr 15: The Ramban Kesri Dangal marked a grand revival of traditional wrestling in the region after a gap of five years, rekindling enthusiasm for the age-old sport under the aegis of the Yuva Dangal Committee Ramban.
The event witnessed a large turnout of spectators and featured wrestlers from Jammu and Kashmir as well as neighbouring states, particularly Punjab. The atmosphere remained vibrant throughout the day as bouts unfolded in the traditional Akhara setting.
In the final bout, Lalu Pehalwan of Jammu and Kashmir Police defeated Punjab’s Gopi in a closely contested match, showcasing strength, skill and endurance. With this victory, Lalu Pehalwan earned the prestigious title of Ramban Kesri Dangal title.
Several preliminary and semi-final bouts were held earlier in the day, featuring both experienced and young wrestlers who displayed commendable talent and fighting spirit.
MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju attended the event as chief guest and lauded the organisers for successfully reviving the dangal after a long gap. He highlighted the cultural significance of wrestling in preserving the region’s heritage and encouraging youth participation in traditional sports.
The event concluded on a successful note, with locals appreciating the revival of the dangal and calling for its regular organisation to promote talent and strengthen community engagement in the region.
