SRINAGAR, July 11: The formidable sides of Kehwa Kings, Simula Bulls and TCI Cheetahs defeating their rivals in exciting contests in the ongoing high voltage cricketing extravaganza ‘Big-GK Jammu and Kashmir Corporate Premier League (JKCPL)’ at Sports Stadium Bijbehara and Kashmir University Grounds, here today.
Earlier, in the first match at Bijbehara, Kehwa Kings registered a 5-wicket win over the strong side of Jumbo Gladiators.
Batting first, Jumbo Gladiators scored a decent total of 166 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Explosive Puneet Kumar top scored with 43 runs off 19 balls, studded with 2 fours and 4 sixes, while Imtiyaz Malik contributed valuable 39 runs and Hitin Dalal chipped in with 23 runs. For Kehwa Kings, skipper Adil Reshi, Asharaf and Arshid claimed 2 wickets each.
Kehwa Kings in reply, reached the target in 19.1 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Arshid Khawaja was the top scorer with unbeaten 44 runs, while Hilal and Ishtiaq contributed valuable 43 and 41 runs to the total respectively. Adil Reshi chipped in with 16-ball 20 runs. For Jumbo Gladiators, left-arm spinner Kuldeep Kumar was the pick of the bowlers, who bagged 2 wickets, while skipper Ramdayal, Raman Dutta and Soumay Jain claimed one wicket apiece. Arshid Khawaja was adjudged as HDFC man of the match, while Puneet Kumar was awarded for hitting maximum sixes.
In another match at Bijbehara, Simula Bulls thrashed Sachdeva Leopards by 66 runs in an easy contest.
Put into bat, Simula Bulls scored a mammoth total of 179 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 5 wickets. Yasir Ali played a brilliant knock of 77 runs off 51 balls, with the help of 6 boundaries and equal number of sixes, while Dhruv Mahajan contributed swashbuckling 67 runs off 36 balls including 10 fours and 2 sixes. Explosiveness, fluidity and grace was seen in almost all the shots played by both the batsmen. Jaswinder Singh also contributed well-made 22 runs. For Sachdeva Leopards, skipper Zahoor Sofi bagged 2 wickets, while Dilbagh Singh and Ajaz Hajam took one wicket each.
Sachdeva Leopards, in reply bundled out for a paltry total of 113 runs in 17.1 overs. Vimarsh Kaw top scored with brisk 29 runs off 17 balls, while Mohd Muddasir contributed quick-fire 23 off 8 balls. Skipper Dhruv Mahajan was the wrecker-in-chief for Simula Bulls, who scalped 4 important wickets, while Hardeep Singh bagged 2 wickets and Hilal Rather took one. Dhruv Mahajan was adjudged HDFC man of the match, while Yasir Ali got the award for hiting maximum sixes.
Meanwhile, in the match at Kashmir University Grounds, TCI Cheetahs scripted a thrilling 2-run win over Ahad Sultans in a close contest in high scoring game.
Batting first, TCI Cheetahs rode on a a superb half-century by out-of-state player Pawan Negi to post a formidable target of 187 runs in 19.5 overs. Negi scored power-packed 78 runs in just 29 balls, studded with 6 boundaries and 7 sixes including 5 consecutive sixes in one over of left-arm spinner Niyaz. Hamid contributed 41 off 37 balls with 7 boundaries. Umar Mumtaz was pick of the bowlers for Ahad Sultans, who claimed 4 important wickets including a splendid hat-trick. Speedster Vishwajeet Singh claimed 2 wickets and Prateek bagged one.
Ahad Sultans, in reply, despite riding on a fabulous knock of 83 runs by out-of-state player Prateek, fell just shot of just 2 runs, scoring 185 for all in the stipulated 20 overs. Prateek scored 83 off 48 balls with the help of 6 fours and equal number of sixes, while consistent Vishwajeet Singh contributed magnificent 36 runs, studded with 4 fours and one six. Right-arm wrist spinner, Manik Gupta scalped 3 important wickets at crucial junctures and claimed the HDFC man of the match award, while Pawan Negi bagged the award for hitting maximum sixes.
