JAMMU, Mar 24: The athletes of Jammu Runners Group (JRG) blossomed again, winning 12 finisher medals in prestigious Bathinda Half Marathon at Rose Garden Bathinda today.
Bathinda Half Marathon was organised with a theme “Run to Fight Against Cancer & Drug Abuse”, wherein all came together and ran to create awareness and endorse a healthy lifestyle.
The event was organised after the grand success of 1st edition of the event on March 25, 2018 with gathering of 1300 participants.
In this 2nd edition, about 1200 athletes took part in different categories of 5k, 10k and 21k.
The 18 participants from Jammu who got finisher medals in different categories included Rajesh Padha, Sanjay Saini, Sandeep Singh, Mohinder Singh Sarna, VK Dogra, Pawan Sharma, Shipra Agarwal, Utkarsh Suri, Vikram Garg (CA), Harinderpal Singh Ricky, Abishiekh Gupta, Akshun Gupta, Kanupriya Garg, Ravleen Kour, Himmat Sharma, Vyom Garg and Kashi Garg.
The highlight of the Marathon was that it was for the first time that three female athletes from JRG won pacer medals.
Kanupriya Garg completed 21 kms in 2.35 hrs, Ravleen Kour finished 21 kms in 2.45 hrs, while Himmat Sharma ran 10 kms in 1.30 hrs.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Padha again excelled by becoming flag runner, holding flag of India while running 21 kms and finishing it in 1.50.22 hrs. He was presented trophy of flag runner. He is the only runner of the state to achieve this honour. This was his 58th medal in running events.
Abhishkh who is physically challenged athlete, ran 21 kms in 1.445.46 hrs.
Sandeep Singh Sunny, former Ranji Trophy player completed 21 kms in 1.52.10 hrs, while Akshun, Harinderpal Singh, Vikram Garg and Sanjay Saini completed 21 kms in 1.59.30 , 2.04.08, 2.24.44 and 2.34.42 hrs respectively.
What was delight to watch was that four athletes from a family including Vikram Garg (21 kms), his wife Kanupriya Garg and their children Kashvi and Vyom (10 kms each) got finisher medals.
