JAMMU, Nov 29: It was a pathetic display of skill and application by J&K batters and casual approach by the bowlers as formidable Karnataka is in sight of big first innings lead in the Under-19 Boys Cooch Behar Trophy on Day-1 at Kandukuri Cricket Academy ground, Vizag, today.
Earlier, J&K won the toss and decided to bat first.
J&K began the innings on a bad note as opener Gursimran Singh was dismissed for nought in the very first over of the innings. The poor show continued as J&K lost the first five wickets with just 47 runs on the board in 18.3 overs. Skipper Mohammad Manzar showed some resistance against the disciplined bowling by the Karnataka bowlers and managed to score 41 runs off 101 balls to help J&K to score paltry 114 runs in 55.3 overs. Wicketkeeper Shivansh Sharma and Moomin Muzaffar were the other two batsmen who crossed double figure mark, contributing 15 and 12 runs respectively.
Shashi Kumar K was the pick of the bowlers for Karnataka, who took 4 wickets by conceding 25 runs in his 12 overs, while Aditya Nair and Rahul Prasana took 2 wickets each. Yashovardan Parantap and Rajendra D claimed 1 wicket each.
In reply, Karnataka were 102 for no loss in 32 overs at stumps on day-1 today. Opener Jesper EJ was unbeaten on 54 runs off 101 balls, while Vishal Onat was at the crease with 46 runs off 93 balls.
J&K used five bowlers so far in speedster Basit Bashir, medium pacer Dhruv Singh Parmar, off-spinner Nityan Abrol and left-arm spinners Ranjot Singh and Sarvashish Singh, however, none of them succeeded in giving a breakthrough.
