JAMMU, June 8: Four talented Wushu players from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, who represented India at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship 2025, were accorded a rousing reception at Jammu Airport on their return today. The prestigious international championship was held in Moscow from June 1 to 7.
Arzath Wangoo emerged as the top performer, bagging two gold medals, while Kapish clinched a gold medal in the Sanda event. Rudra Partap Singh brought home two silver medals, and Hiranya Mahajan secured a commendable 5th place in his category. All four were selected for the Indian squad following trials held in Dehradun from April 2 to 6, 2025.
The jubilant players were warmly welcomed by Bhavneet, General Secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K, along with players’ parents, fellow athletes and supporters.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, congratulated the medallists and appreciated the efforts of the Wushu Association of J&K for their dedication in nurturing talent. She reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to providing the best training infrastructure and support to UT athletes.
Vijay Saraf (President, WAJK), Ranjeet Kalra (Vice President), Sohit Sharma (Treasurer) and international player Kamal Kishore also lauded the players’ achievements. Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee, praised the athletes for making the country and J&K proud.
He expressed gratitude to LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah, Sports Minister Satish Sharma, Sarmad Hafeez (Secretary, J&K Govt), Nuzhat Gul and the Wushu Association of India for their continuous support.
