JAMMU, Feb 24: The much-awaited Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Open Lawn Tennis Championship commenced today at the Maulana Azad Stadium, following the successful conclusion of the three-day Veterans event. Players from across Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the three-day event, competing in various age groups.
The tournament was inaugurated by B.S. Jaggi, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association (JKLTA), in the presence of other officials. The opening day witnessed exciting matches in both the Men’s Doubles and Singles categories. In the Men’s Doubles, the pair of Vikram Gupta and Raghav Sabharwal triumphed over Arush Padha and Raghunandan, winning by 8-0, while Deepak Chib and Col. Pradeep beat Ashish Bali and Rakesh Kumar by 8-1.
In the Round-I of Men’s Singles, Vinayak Raina defeated Raghunandan Sharma by 8-0, Saksham Amla beat Aarush Padha by 8-2 and Paras Kachroo won against Aarav Sharma by 8-3. Several other intense matches followed in Round-II, with Shaurya Pratap Singh, Paras Kachroo, Vikram Gupta, Gurleen Singh, and Shivansh Kohli securing victories.
The event is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association (JKLTA) under the aegis of J&K Sports Council, offering players of all age groups an opportunity to showcase their skills.
