SRINAGAR, May 26: The J&K UT Level Open Chess Championship 2026-27 concluded successfully at Gindun Sports Stadium after a thrilling three-day competition under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
Organized by the All Jammu & Kashmir Chess Association, the championship witnessed participation of more than 76 players from different districts of J&K, reflecting the growing popularity of chess in the Union Territory.
The organizers said the Championship provided a valuable platform for players to display their talent, strategic skills and sportsmanship while also helping young players gain exposure for higher-level competitions.
At the concluding ceremony, trophies, certificates and mementoes were distributed among winners and participants. The top four players from the Championship were selected to represent J&K UT in the upcoming Senior National Chess Championship.
In the final standings, Anurag Singh secured first position, followed by Sumit Grover, Hamzah Malik and Nadeem Hussain Mir.
Fatima Khursheed was declared Best Woman Player, while Ibaad Ahmad Gandroo and Hoor Fatima received awards as the youngest boy and girl participants respectively.
