JAMMU, June 12: To mark the World Day against Child Labour, the Office of the Labour Commissioner, J&K Government, organized a series of awareness events across Jammu, engaging stakeholders from Government departments, civil society, NGOs, traders, and prominent unions.
The events began with a webinar and panel discussion on the theme, “Progress is clear, but there’s more to do: let’s speed up efforts,” aimed at highlighting progress made and intensifying action to end child labour. Esteemed speakers shared insights into child labour laws, reforms, and challenges.
Charandeep Singh, Labour Commissioner, J&K Government, emphasized the need for collective responsibility, stating, “Child labour is a curse; it cannot be accepted. Let us pledge to connect every child with education, safety, dignity and values.”
A Walkathon and a Nukkad Natak were held at Bahu Plaza to raise public awareness. Singh added that the Labour Department conducts regular awareness camps and works in collaboration with other departments to eliminate the worst forms of child labour. He called upon employers, workers’ organizations, and citizens to join hands to build a child labour-free Jammu and Kashmir.
