SRINAGAR, Nov 17: Inayat Jehangir defended his Singles title, while Mir Jameel and Haider Hussain clinched the Doubles crown at the Srinagar Open Tennis Championship 2024, held at Gindun Tennis Courts, Rajbagh, here today.
In the Singles final, Inayat defeated Dilbagh Singh in straight sets by 6-0, 6-4. Despite some exceptional winners from Singh, Inayat’s consistent baseline game proved too strong as errors crept into Singh’s play.
In the Doubles final, Mir Jameel and Haider Hussain triumphed over Inayat and Dilbagh, winning by 6-4, 7-5. The match, which lasted nearly two hours, saw Haider’s brilliance at the net and Jameel’s steady baseline rallies eventually outlasting their opponents. The match could have gone to a decider had Inayat and Dilbagh converted any of their three set points while leading 5-4 in the second set.
Earlier, Jameel and Haider defeated Asif and Tahufuz in the semifinals, while Inayat and Dilbagh overcame Rakesh Raman and S Rao to reach the final.
The tournament, organized by the District Lawn Tennis Association Srinagar in collaboration with the JK Lawn Tennis Association, concluded with a prize distribution ceremony officiated by Senior Police Officer Sajad Khaliq Bhat and ITF certified coach Hanumant Singh.
