SRINAGAR, Sept 2: Jammu Veterans were crowned Champions of the 1st J&K Veterans Cup after defeating Kashmir Veterans in a thrilling final, completing a 3-0 whitewash in the best-of-three series. The prestigious tournament was organized by the Veterans Cricket Association J&K in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and was played at the historic Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Srinagar.
In the final match, Jammu Veterans won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a competitive total of 161 runs in 20 overs. Vishav played a brilliant innings of 78 runs, supported by Ajay Kumar who contributed 25 runs. For Kashmir Veterans, captain Nazir Ahmad led from the front with 2 wickets, while Waseem, Tahir and Mehraj took a wicket each.
Chasing 162, Kashmir Veterans suffered early setbacks and were reduced to 18/3. A strong 96-run partnership between Mushtaq (86) and Tahir (32) brought them back into the game, but they eventually fell short by 5 runs, being bowled out for 156. Rakesh Dada was the pick of the bowlers for Jammu, claiming 3 wickets, while Vishav took 2 and Mubashir picked up 1 wicket.
Vivek Suri, General Secretary of the Veterans Cricket Association J&K, congratulated both teams. The association announced that the Veterans Cup will now be held annually to foster camaraderie among senior cricketers.
