JAMMU, Nov 9: In a bid to raise awareness about vascular health and promote an “Amputation Free India,” Jammu Vascular Society, in collaboration with Jammu Club, Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission, Friends of GMC Jammu and other partners, organized a nationwide Walkathon across 28 cities, including Jammu. Over 150 participants took part in the Jammu leg of the event, starting from Jammu Club and covering the Maulana Azad Stadium route.
The Walkathon was flagged off by Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Sat Sharma, in the presence of MLAs Yudhveer Sethi (Jammu East) and Arvind Gupta (Jammu West). Sat Sharma lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of vascular health and walking as a preventive measure against amputations. Yudhveer Sethi highlighted the role of such events in spreading awareness, while Arvind Gupta stressed lifestyle modifications including healthy eating, physical activity, and avoiding harmful substances.
Dr Arvind Kohli, Convener of Jammu Vascular Society, briefed about this year’s initiative. Present were Shailender Singh SSP Railways, Dr Gurjit Singh, Dr Mohan Lal, Dr T R Raina, Prof Sushil Sharma, Prof Anita Vig, Prof Parminder, DC Jamwal, Mohan Singh Chauhan, Dr Sachin Gupta, Gaurav Gupta, Dr Ritesh, Ashwani, Dr Shelja, Prof I A Mir, Prof Rahul Gupta, Dr Mohit Arora, along with members of Jammu Club and civil society representatives including senior police officers, lawyers, media consultants, artists, businessmen, chartered accountants, youth, and children. The event concluded with a yoga session by Prof T R Raina.
