JAMMU, Nov 23: Samyak Jain emerged as the champion of the Jammu Open Chess Tournament held at Vivek Chess Academy under the aegis of the All J&K Chess Association. Samyak secured 5 points in the open category and later clinched the title by defeating Pazhany Kohli in an intense tie-break match after both players finished level on points. Pazhany settled for the runner-up position, while Mitansh Magotra claimed the silver medal with 4.5 points and Ishaan Chowdhary bagged bronze with 4 points.
In the women’s category, Amrita Gupta won gold with 3 points, followed by Nitika with 2 points taking silver, and Gunjan securing bronze.
The U-13 category saw a strong performance by Pazhany, who won the gold medal with 5 points. Rajdeep Singh finished second with 3 points and Agastya earned the bronze medal. In the U-10 category, Prince claimed gold with 3 points, while Prajanya Mahajan and Deevansh Khanna won silver and bronze respectively. The event was graced by Anil Chowdhary as the chief guest, who distributed medals and cash prizes and encouraged the young players. The tournament followed pairings generated through the internationally recommended FIDE Swiss software, ensuring a fair and competitive structure throughout the event.
