OVal, July 11:Ravindra Jadeja’s 4/23 helped India bundle out Sri Lanka for 201 in the Celkon Mobile Cup final match at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain on Thursday.
Jadeja proved to be the wrecker-in-chief as he scalped Dinesh Chandimal, Rangana Herath, Lasith Malinga and Suranga Lakmal to assert his dominance over Sri Lanka.
Jadeja’s impressive figures overshadowed Kumar Sangakkara’s 100-ball 71 that revived Sri Lanka after early jolts.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who continued his fine form in the tournament, started the wicket-taking party when he first dismissed Upul Tharanga and then picked up the prized scalp of Mahela Jayawardene (22), who is playing in his 400th one-day international.
Tharanga (16) put up a decent 27-run partnership for the opening wicket with Jayawardene before the southpaw was caught behind by skipper MS Dhoni, who elected to field first.
Sangakkara, who hit 6 boundaries and a lone six in his stalwartly innings, put up a 122-run solid partnership with Lahiru Thirimanne for the third wicket.
However, Ravichandran Ashwin then struck twice in quick succession to put Sri Lanka on the backfoot.
Ashwin first dismissed Sangakkara and then soon after scalped Kusal Perera (2) by bamboozling the Sri Lankan that resulted in him getting stumped.
The reigning Champions Trophy winners, India, were boosted for the finale as regular skipper Dhoni returned to the playing XI after being laid low by a hamstring injury. The Indians also brought in pacer Vinay Kumar in the team in place of Umesh Yadav. (PTI)
