JAMMU, Mar 30: J&K Police Central team crushed Jammu West team by five goals to one (5-1) and lifted the title trophy of the State Hockey Championship being organised by Hockey J&K under the sponsorship of J&K State Sports Council and KK Hakku stadium here today.
In the first half of the final match, Surinder Singh of J&K Police Central team netted the goal in the 9th minute and in the 12th minute of the game, enthusiastic Surinder Singh scored another goal. Back to back two goals brought the Jammu West team players under pressure.
In 20th minute, Sikanderpal of J&K Police Central team scored the goal and raised the scorecard to 3-0 goals.
Amrinder Singh of J&K Police Central team netted the fourth goal of the match in the 25th minute, which the opponent Jammu West team players failed to equalize and the first half ended with 4-0 goals.
In the second half, passionate Amrinder Singh bounced again and scored the goal in the 40th minute and almost shattered the dreams of Jammu West team players of winning the game.
Finding the gap, Jagjeet Singh of Jammu West team netted the goal in the 52nd minute, which worked as a ray of hope for his team-mates to win the match.
After 52nd minute, the players of Jammu West team strived hard to register win but failed and lost the match by 5-1 goals and credited the title trophy of the Championship in the favour of J&K Police Central team.
On the valedictory function, Minister for Housing, Culture and Horticulture Raman Bhalla was the chief guest, who awarded the winners in presence of Ranjit Kalra, member, J&K State Sports Council, Jaswant Singh, senior vice president, Hockey J&K, Romal Singh, general secretary, Rajinder Singh, treasurer, Sarla Kohli, vice president, Jagjeet Kour, joint secretary, Iqbal Singh, PP Singh and HS Chib, veteran players.
While speaking, Minister threw light on the importance of the sports in day-to-day life.
He asked the youth to participate in the sports activities to keep their body mentally and physically fit.
Bhalla assured all help for the promotion of the game of Hockey in the State.
The final match was officiated by Dalbir Mehta, Indpal Singh, RS Bitta, MS Reen and GS Bakshi.
