LEH, May 20: The Inter School tournament for High Schools of Leh, Chuchot, Kharu, Nyoma and Durbok Blocks for boys and girls concluded, here today.
The tournament, organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, had begun on May 15.
Deputy Commissioner/ CEO, LAHDC, Leh Saugat Biswas was the chief guest, while as SSP, Leh Dr Sunil Gupta was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The final match of Handball was played between Druk Padma Karpo School, Shey and Sidartha School, Stok, wherein latter defeated former by 3-1 goals.
Dr Sunil Gupta while speaking on the occasion appreciated the Youth Services and Sports Department for conducting the tournament of various activities and promoting the sports in Leh district.
He also threw light on the talent and enthusiasm of Ladakhi students in sports and hoped that Ladakhi students will be able to play at district, state and national levels.
The District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Leh, Abdul Rashid informed that as many as 550 students from 32 High Schools participated in the tournament, which included the sports disciplines like Handball, Volleyball, Football, Discus Throw and Races for 100 mtrs and 400 mtrs.
He also informed that tournament for Middle Schools would also be started after two days at Leh and in Nobra the tournament will also be started soon.
Later, Dr. Sunil Gupta and other guests distributed trophies and medals among the winners and runners- up schools and individual trophies and certificates among the students.
