Inter District U-17 Cricket Tournament gets underway

KATHUA, Sept 9: Inter District Divisional Level tournament in the discipline of Cricket U-17 boys, being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports got underway here at Naaz Ground Sports Stadium, Billawar, near here.
The tournament is being organised under the Chairmanship of Joint Director Jammu, Madan Lal and under the supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kathua, Subash Chander Bhardwaj.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joginder Singh Rai inaugurated the tournament in which 8 teams, comprising of 123 players of Jammu Division are taking part.
The participating districts include Kathua, Jammu Samba, Doda, Poonch, Kishtwar, Udhampur and Reasi.
The opening match was played between hosts Kathua and Samba in which Kathua opted to bat first scored 130 runs in stipulated 14 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process.
In reply, District Samba bundled out for 90 runs in 13 overs, thus lost the match by 40 runs.
Kamalpreet Singh of Kathua scored 72 runs in 44 balls with the help of four sixes and 6 boundaries and was declared as man of the match. Daleep Singh of Kathua clinched 5 wickets in 2.1 overs.
In another match, Jammu district defeated Kishtwar by 2 wickets.
Batting first, Jammu district scored 102 runs in 16 overs. At one stage, Jammu district were struggling at 48 for 6. However, it was Vinayak (20), Abhay Tandon (15) and Dhruv Parmar (20), who came to the rescue of Jammu district and consolidated the innings to take their side to a respectable total.
In reply, Kishtwar district managed to score 93 runs, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 9 runs. Nityam Abrol was the pick of the bowlers, who took 5 wickets, while Abhay Tandon and Aditpal took 1 wicket each.
In other two matches played today, Udhampur defeated Reasi and Doda got the better of Poonch.
The matches were officiated by Parbhat Singh, Jai Pal Singh, Ashok Manhas, Mohan Lal Dub, Rajeev Khajuria, Pardeep Sharma and Naresh Kumar.
