JAMMU, Apr 17: A major tragedy was averted last evening after a high mast light pole collapsed during a windstorm at the Synthetic Turf of Mini Stadium, Parade. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident has once again brought into question the quality of infrastructure at the facility.
This is not the first such incident at the venue. A similar collapse had occurred on June 6, 2024, raising serious concerns about the structural integrity of installations at the stadium.
“It is the second time a high mast pole has fallen at the stadium. The U-19 (Youth) football camp is currently underway and local youth come here daily for practice till late evening. It could have turned fatal. Authorities must take immediate responsibility,” said a senior sportsperson.
Divisional Sports Officer, Baljinder Pal Singh, when contacted, said, “The pole was already non-functional and we had requested its replacement earlier. It was damaged due to a windstorm.”
Stadium Manager, Satpal also confirmed the incident but stated that the matter falls under another department and he had limited information.
The recurring incidents have cast a shadow over the safety standards and quality control of the facility.
