JAMMU, Apr 18: Heritage School, in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), organized the Youth 4 Himalayas Workshop, bringing together 45 students from various schools across Jammu. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the Himalayan ecosystem and encourage youth-led conservation efforts.
The event began with a warm welcome, where green plants were presented to the resource persons as a symbol of growth and sustainability. A student moderator greeted participants, followed by an inspiring address by Vice Principal Rashmi Thakur, who emphasized the importance of involving youth in environmental action. She also highlighted Heritage School’s ongoing green initiatives and thanked IUCN for the collaboration.
Sessions were led by IUCN team members Archana Chatterjee (Programme Manager), Meenal Pahuja (Senior Project Associate – Habitats and Species) and Akanksha (Communications and Partnerships Associate). They engaged students through interactive discussions, presentations, and activities on conservation and climate action.
The workshop was further enriched by expert inputs from Dr. Pankaj Chandan, Director, Institute for Development, Jammu and Prof. Sachin Kumar Bhagat, Assistant Professor of Political Science, Government Degree College Marh. Both experts shared insights connecting ecological knowledge with policy and civic responsibility. The workshop successfully empowered students to become informed advocates for the Himalayas.
