Haryana’s Vipan wins 15th Int’l Battal Ballian Dangal title

REASI, June 15: Young wrestler Vipan from Akhara Raiwal, Sonipat (Haryana) clinched the 15th International Annual Battal Ballian Dangal title by defeating Benia Min of J&K Police in a fiercely contested malli bout lasting nine minutes. Vipan was awarded a cash prize of Rs 90,000, while the runner-up received Rs 60,000.
The mega Kanta Kushti event was organized by the Battal Ballian Dangal Committee in association with the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, under the guidance of Deep Singh (Pinka).
Former Minister and MLA Udhampur (West) Pawan Gupta attended as chief guest, distributing prizes worth Rs 5.10 lakh and donating Rs 21,000 in support. The event was presided over by Shiv Kumar Sharma, President of the J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
Other guests of honour included MLA R.S. Pathania (East), MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia and DDC member Puran Chand Sharma. Prominent attendees were Rajan Singh (Happy), SHO Raghubir Singh Choudhery, Colonel Balwant Singh, Udhay Bir Singh, Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri) and Rohit Sethi.
In the first main bout, Ishaq Ahmed (J&K Police) defeated Irfan of Iran, also earning Rs 90,000. In total, 45 bouts were held. Other winners included Rashid (Jammu), Surjit Singh (J&K Police), Sagar (Delhi) and Anyat (Manwal).
The event was anchored by Naresh Kumar and Anil Kumar, with referees led by Sat Paul Verma and others. Key organizers included Deep Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Pankaj Singh and Rajinder Singh.
