JAMMU, May 30: The Sports Wing of Government Polytechnic College Jammu organized an Inter-Department Chess Tournament for the academic session 2025–26. The tournament was inaugurated by the Principal Er. Talet Mahmood, who encouraged students to actively participate in games and sports.
Initially, intra-department chess competitions were held in all 10 departments. The departmental winners then competed in the final stage of the inter-department tournament. The event was conducted under the supervision of Paramjot Singh, Demonstrator, Civil Engineering Department and Rakesh Kumar, IR, Electrical Department.
In the first semi-final, Prikshit Sharma from Computer Engineering defeated Anirudh Sharma from IT Department. In the second semi-final, Gurpreet Singh from Architecture Department triumphed over Anirudh Bali from Instrumentation and Control Engineering.
In a closely contested final, Prikshit Sharma emerged victorious against Gurpreet Singh, clinching the winner’s trophy. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Raj Kumar (HoD Mechanical), Raj Shekhar (HoD Automobile), Sanjay Gupta (HoD Electrical) and Sukhdeep Singh (HoD Civil). Amit Sharma, Sports Secretary, presented the vote of thanks. Others present included Yogesh Raina, Mehraj-ud-Din, Chamel Singh (PEM) and Toshi Devi (PET).
