SRINAGAR, Sept 9 : Mr. N N Vohra, Governor, inaugurated 11-day Comedy Drama Festival 2012, organized by the Jammu Kashmir Film Makers And Artists Cooperative Ltd (JKFMAC) in collaboration with the State Information Department and J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, at SKICC, here this evening.
The Governor also released a book “Television Production Takneek Aur Tarseel” authored by Ashok Jailkhani, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, on this occasion.
This Comedy Drama Festival, comprising plays in Kashmiri, Urdu, Dogri and Ladakhi, will depict the glorious cultural heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions. These plays have been written and directed by well known writers and theaterists.
Usha Vohra, First Lady, Mubarak Gul, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Vijay Bakaya, MLC, Chairman and Members of the Committee on Official Language of the Legislative Assembly of Kerala, currently on a visit of J&K, Ashok Jailkhani, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, Khalid Bashir, Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Zaffar Ahmad, Director, State Information Department, Shabir Ahmad Buch, Director, Doordarshan, Jammu, Shami Shair, Director, Doordarshan, Srinagar, senior officers, functionaries of JKFMAC, writers, intellectuals, artists and a large number of art and theatre lovers were present on the occasion.
The Governor, observed that Television, Radio, Theatre and other forms of mass media are very powerful means to create awareness among the people about the various development and welfare schemes launched by the Government, which go a long way in hastening the development process and promoting the welfare of the people at large. He added that through the visual media even semi literate and uneducated persons living in the remote areas can get better informed about the programmes and schemes being implemented for their welfare.
He said that involving the common people in planning for their development contributes to evolving relevant welfare programmes. He said that well considered communication strategies can help the policy planners and administrators to secure the best possible results through the implementation of various human development programmes.
The Governor suggested the need for setting up a Cultural Centre in the State which remains active throughout the year, organizing drama and art festivals so that the artistic talents of the budding artists from each of the three regions of the State are groomed, the cultural traditions revived and those visiting the State get to know the glorious cultural heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions.
Referring to Mr. Jailkhani’s book, “Television Production Takneek Aur Tarseel”, the Governor observed that it was beneficial that this volume has now been translated into four languages and also noticed and appreciated abroad.
Mr. Jailkhani gave a resume of the “Television Production Takneek Aur Tarseel” and spoke about the aims and objects of writing this volume.
Prof. Shafi Shauq, former Head, Department of Kashmiri, University of Kashmir, presented a review of this book.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Shabbir Hyder, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the JKFMAC, gave details of the second edition of the Festival, the first was organized last year.
Saadat Hassan Mantoo’s famous play titled, “Tu Tu Main Main”, was presented on this occasion by the Amateur Theatre Group, which was highly appreciated by the audience.
