JAMMU, Oct 8: With a view to promote peace among its students, Gandhi King Literary Society was established at GD Goenka Public School, Jammu, governed by Om Prakash Charitable Trust in collaboration with Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi, here today.
The inaugural ceremony started with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Chief Patron, Principal, Jyoti Asija, Patron, Dr Seema Rohmetra, Local Co-ordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation and Level I Kingian Trainer and Surendra Kumar Jain, Secretary Gandhi Peace Foundation, New Delhi.
The oath for the peace was delivered to the members of the Society by the Principal of the School, Jyoti Asija.
President of the Society, Saubhagya of Class XI announced the programmes which the Society would conduct during the year to promote peace and harmony.
Deepanshu Shan, a student of Class X spoke about the main purpose with which the Society was established, while Shivam Rohmetra, Vice President of the Society gave a speech on Gandhiji and his principles.
Payal Vij narrated an incident from Gandhiji’s life and Shivani narrated a poem on Gandhiji.
Surendra Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion, who presented a profile of Gandhi Peace Foundation, wherein he talked about the importance of Gandhian thoughts in today’s world.
He also stressed that Gandhiji was a strong pillar of the nation and his thoughts will be a source of strength for the youth.
Dr Seema Rohmetra was the guest of honour. She in her address highlighted the role of schools in nurturing the value systems among children.
The activities that would be conducted by the Society in collaboration with Gandhi Peace Foundation are special assemblies on the theme of peace, non-violence, moral values, etc, besides a week on moral values, one-day seminar on peace for the students, poster making and slogan writing.
A pamphlet of Gandhi King Literary Society was also launched on the occasion. The pamphlet reflected the goals and the activities scheduled for the year.
Speaking on the occasion Principal, Jyoti Asija stressed upon the importance of peace and harmony in our lives. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the Principal.
