UDHAMPUR, Oct 14: Udhampur Sports Festival organized under Civic Action Programme of Jammu and Kashmir Police concluded today.
On the concluding ceremony, Virender Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi range was the chief guest, while Rayees Mohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Randheer Singh, SSP Assistant Director Outdoor SKPA Udhampur, Faisal Qureshi, Additional SP Udampur, Harinder Kumar, Commandant 187th Battalion CRPF, CR Mahapatra, Commandant 137th Battalion CRPF, Kalbhushan Sharma CPO Udhampur, Kameshwar Puri, DySP Headquarters Udhampur, Charanjeet Singh, SDPO Chenani, Jagdev Singh, SDPO Ramnagar, Shakeel Rehman Bhat, DySP DAR DPL Udhampur   Sudesh Kumar District Youth Services and Sports Officer, retired police officers and officials and prominent citizens were also present.
DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range Varinder Sharma, while speaking highlighted the importance of sports in civilized societies. He said that sports always act as a channel to bring the public closer and closer to the police. This is the best way to bridge the gap between police and public. He further said that this time these sports activities have not only confined to Udhampur town but also decentralized to sub-divisions like Ramnagar, Majalta, Chennai and Pancheri which has facilitated the participation of players belonging to rural areas in large number. DIG also informed that similar tournaments would be organized at range level as well as zone level. He encouraged the players to perform better so that they may get a chance to participate in range level and zonal level tournaments as well.
DIG also distributed trophies and certificates to players and the technical support staff of the Department of Youth Service and Sports Udhampur and Sports Council.
On the occasion, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur laid stress on the importance of sports activities in the life of a person especially youths. Sports activities keep them physically and mentally fit to achieve desirous progressive goals. Besides it also keep them away from social evils like drug addictions, terrorism, separatism etc. SSP informed that Udhampur Sports Festival was organized as part of the annual activity plan chalked out by Police Headquarters under Civic Action Programme. 1461 boys and girls participated in 12 events which played over five days. 240 matches were played during this sports fest which were officiated by 132 officials of the Department of Youth Services and Sports and Sports Council, he added.
In T-20 cricket match final, Government Higher Secondary School Ramnagar registered win over Brahmrishi Bawra Shanti Vidyapeeth Udhampur, whereas in Kabaddi summit clash, Government Higher Secondary School Khoon lost to Udhampur Club.
In Tug-of-War final, Pancheri team lost to Government Higher Secondary School Boys Udhampur.
In 100 meters race (girls), Mamta of Ramnagar, Reena Devi of Chenani and Kanta Devi of Chenani bagged first, second and third positions respectively.
In the end, Additional SP Udhampur Faisal Qureshi presented vote of thanks.
