JAMMU, Sept 19: Scripting resounding victories over their rivals in their respective semifinals, GGM Science College Jammu and GDC Kathua have made it to the finals of the Inter-Collegiate Chess (Men and Women) Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at its Gymnasium, here.
Now, the finalists will take on each other in the title clash in the next week after the completion of the North Zone Inter-University Chess Championship to be held at Jallandhar in Punjab from September 20 to September 25, 2013.
Earlier, in the first semifinal, GGM Science College prevailed over GDC Hiranagar by (3-2) in a tough contest. Prayas of GGM College drubbed Manoj of GDC, Sunil Singh of GGM lost to Sanjeev Kumar of GDC, Sukhdev Singh of GGM lost to Ajay Kumar of GDC and Sunil Singh of GGM got better of Shubham Sharma of GDC Hiranagar, while in best versus best, Sunil Singh of GGM Science College trounced Ajay Kumar of GDC Hiranagar.
In another semifinal, GDC Kathua blanked PG Department by (4-0). Mohit Singh Jasrotia outplayed Ranvir Singh Parihar, Basmir Mohd defeated Abhinav Khajuria, Parshotam Singh drubbed Kulveer Singh and Sanjeev Jasrotia prevailed over Hiteshwar Kesar.
Meanwhile in the women’s section, GCW Parade trounced GCET BY (3-1) in the first semifinal. Varsha Rani of GCW got better of Surbhi Jasrotia of GCET, Navneet Kour of GCW Parade beat Meetashi Sharma, Sanmeet Kour of GCW Parade drubbed Aditi Sharma and Ravleen Kour of GCW Parade lost to Arvinder Kour of GCET, Jammu.
In another semifinal in women’s section, GCW Udhampur entered final via walkover.
The Tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
