Kathua, Feb 25: Govt. Degree College (GDC), Kathua celebrated its Annual Day cum prize Distribution Function amidst great fanfare, here today.
MLA, Basohli and former Minister for Health and Medical Education and ARI & Trainings was the chief guest on the occasion, while Kuldeep Kumar, MLA Hiranagar was the guest of honour.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Dr Nater Singh presented welcome address, which was followed by the Guard of Honour to the dignitaries by NCC Cadets.
An invocation to the Goddess of Knowledge Saraswati, provided an auspicious beginning to the event followed by lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest and guest of honour, who were accompanied on stage by the Principal of the college, Prof (Dr) Nater Singh, Prof P K Rao, Prof Sumanesh and other senior faculty members of the College.
Principal presented the College Annual Report that showcased the laurels and activities of students in the field of academics, sports, NCC, NSS and other cultural activities during Academic year 2015-16, which was followed by a colourful cultural fiesta in the form of mesmerizing group song and enthralling dance performances by students in the form of Dogri Dance, Rajasthani Dance, Gidda and Bhangra.
Chief guest applauded the efforts of the students who presented the dance performances representing the rich culture of the State, while the guest of honour stressed upon the younger generation to acquire knowledge and not just degrees.
The programme was followed by the Prize and Award Distribution Ceremony, wherein meritorious students were given medals, prizes and certificates for their contribution.
The other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Principal of GDC, Mahanpur, Prof. K. C. Badgal, Retd. (Prof.) Dr. A. K. Malhotra, Retd. (Prof.) Dr. Ramkrishan, Retd. Prof. Dhian Singh, Retd. Prof. Vijay Kumar and Retd. (Prof.) Dr. R.C Bhagat.
The stage was coordinated by Dr. Namarta and Dr. Rachna and formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof P K Rao.
