JAMMU, Jan 17: Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar registered a narrow win by 14 runs over GDC Ramban to advance in the ongoing Inter-Collegiate Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at Varsity grounds, here.
Earlier, batting first, GDC Billawar scored 134 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 8 wickets. Surjeet played a brilliant innings of 39 runs in 37 balls with the help of 6 boundaries, while Sunil Kumar contributed 34 runs to the total. Gulshan and Rahul Sharma also chipped in with 13 runs each. For GDC Ramban, Sanjay Verma took 2 wickets, while Abdul Hamid, Imtiyaz Naik, Umar Khan and Sandeep Singh claimed one wicket apiece.
In reply, GDC Ramban fell short of 14 runs as they managed to score 120 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 8 wickets, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 14 runs. Imtiyaz Naik (29), Umar Khan (23) and Yasir Arafat (13) were the main contributors. Rahul Sharma was the pick of the bowlers for GDC Billawar, who scalped 3 important wickets by conceding 28 runs in his 4 overs, while Ajay, Shabaz Bhatt and Banu Partap claimed one wicket apiece.
The match was officiated by Raman Kumar and Vijay Dogra as umpires, while Manu Khajuria was the scorer.
