GCW Parade wins Veerana Aivalli Memorial debate contest

JAMMU, Jan 24: The team from the Government College for Women (GCW), Parade, Jammu lifted the glittering Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Running Trophy in the 11th Veeranna Aivalli Memorial Inter-Collegiate/Departmental Debating Competition, organized by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K Regional Branch in collaboration with the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu.
Shriya Raina and Bharti Manhas both from the Women College, Parade bagged the first and third prize, respectively whereas Vinee Mahajan from GCW, Gandhi Nagar was adjudged as second. The winners were presented cash prizes amounting to Rs 2,500, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,500 respectively.
The Consolation prizes amounting to Rs 1000 each were awarded to Tamana Slathia from MBS College of Engineering and Technology and Ishtiaq Ahmed from Govt. MAM College, Jammu.
The topic of the debate was In the Opinion of the House, “Can the Youth Bulge be Exploited for the benefit of the Country”.
Eighteen Teams from the various affiliated Colleges with University were participated in the said Debating Competition.
Prof M P Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, was the chief guest, while Ashok Prasad, Director General of Police presided over the function. Swarna Aivalli, Girish Aivalli and Nitish Aivalli were also present on this occasion.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Chairman, IIPA, J&K Regional Branch presented welcome address.
Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu, presented vote of thanks.
Prof Satnam Kour, Dr CM Seth and Jagdish Chander were the Adjudicators, while Anju Thapa and Goldy Mahajan acted as Rapporteurs.
The proceedings of the Award Ceremony were conducted by JB S Johar, Secretary, IIPA, J&K Regional Branch while debate anchored by Huma Khan.
