LEH, July 10: In an inspiring testament to courage and endurance, Indian Army’s Fire & Fury Corps has embarked on a Summer Expedition tracing the historic Old Silk Route. The mission, flagged off from Leh by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, GOC Fire & Fury Corps, will cover 264 kms over 12 days, across altitudes ranging from 11,000 to 18,000 feet.
Battling harsh terrain, sub-zero temperatures and thin air, the expedition is more than a test of physical stamina. It is a symbolic tribute to India’s ancient legacy, retracing the path once used by warriors, monks, and traders. This initiative seeks to reconnect with the cultural and historical heritage that defines India’s northern frontiers.
The Old Silk Route, once a vital link between Central and South Asia, holds deep geopolitical and cultural relevance even today. The expedition aims to revive lost narratives, foster regional awareness, and highlight Ladakh’s strategic and cultural significance.
By navigating snowbound trails and rediscovering forgotten landmarks, the troops carry the Tricolour as a proud emblem of national pride and resilience. The mission not only showcases operational readiness in extreme conditions but also reinforces the Army’s enduring spirit of exploration, heritage preservation, and unity.
