DYSS honours achievers on Annual Sports Day

DODA, Dec 8: The Department of Youth Services and Sports Doda marked its Annual Sports Day with a ceremony dedicated to acknowledging and felicitating achievers in different sports during the year 2023-24. The event, held here in the Indoor Stadium as part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, was graced by Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh and SSP Abdul Qayoom, with former as the Chief Guest.
During the ceremony, Trophies and certificates were awarded to students who excelled at the national level by the Deputy Commissioner.
A Cultural show, including a welcome song by girl students and scintillating performances by students of local schools added an extra layer of attraction to the annual day celebrations.
In his address, the DC highlighted the concrete measures being taken by the district administration to augment infrastructure in the sports stadium, with a priority on fencing. He reiterated the district administration’s unwavering support for the Youth Services and Sports Department, urging the promotion of sports culture to channelize energy of youth in the right direction and save them from social evils like drug addiction.
The DC Doda also unveiled plans for a talent hunt and a Mega Winter Carnival in Bhaderwah to boost tourism. Excitingly, the district is gearing up to introduce shooting and archery as a new sport, with dedicated infrastructure for its promotion.
SSP Abdul Qayoom also extended his appreciation and best wishes to the students awarded for their excellence in sports activities. He urged the achievers to contribute towards eradication of drug abuse from society.
Earlier, District Officer of Youth Services and Sports, Jaffer Haider Sheikh welcomed the chief guest and guests. He presented an annual report highlighting students’ performance in sports activities at various levels. He extended gratitude to the DC for his efforts in augmenting sports, the infrastructure and functioning of the Youth Services and Sports Office.
