KATRA, Feb 24: District Police Reasi organised Junior Level Wrestling competition, under civic action programme at Vivekananda Stadium, here today.
Wrestlers drawn from across the district attended the competition in 35 to 60 kg weight category.
This is the first of its kind competition to have been organized exclusively for budding wrestlers to understand the internal dynamics of wrestling.
The wrestlers were taught the ways and rules of wrestling besides its importance in national and international arena.
73 bouts took place in different categories.
Those who won gold medals in the competition included Mohd Anwar, 35 kh; Veer Singh, 45 kg; Yasir Hamid, 50 kg; Mohinder Lal, 55 kg; Mohd Farooq, 60 kg and Surinder Sharma, 65 kg.
The competition was inaugurated by SP Katra, Kulbir Singh in presence of Shiv Kumar Sharma, president Indian Style Wrestling Association.
The winners of each category received Rs 1500 for first, Rs 1000 for second and Rs 500 for winning gold, siver and bronze medals respectively.
