UDHAMPUR, Aug 5: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, Udhampur organized a District Level Inter-School Tournament for Under-19 Girls, featuring events in Fencing, Judo, Taekwondo, Softball and Boxing at Subhash Stadium and Volleyball and Handball at Mini Stadium, Udhampur.
A total of 130 girls from various Higher Secondary Schools across Udhampur district participated with great enthusiasm. The tournament was held under the patronage of Director General, Youth Services & Sports J&K UT, Anuradha Gupta, the chairperson of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai and overall supervision of DYSSO Udhampur, Romesh Chander Mishra.
The event was graced by DYSSO Udhampur as chief guest and ZPEOs Pushpinder Kour (Tikri), Vijay Kumar (Panchari) and Jyoti Rani (Jib) as guests of honour. In his address, the chief guest emphasized the importance of sports in youth development and urged participants to stay away from drugs.
Selection trials for Handball and Volleyball were conducted by experts Ravi Singh Jaswal and Sanjay Sharma. In the fencing category, Manvi Bandral, Swasti Sharma and Irene Kour from APS Udhampur won in Sabre, Foil and Epee respectively. Judo winners included Sumriti Katoch and Lakshita Sharma from Girls HSS Udhampur and Deepa Katoch from Happy Model HSS. In Taekwondo, Sarishti Panotra, Anu Bali and Shruti Thakur of Girls HSS Udhampur emerged victorious in their weight categories. Softball winners from HSS Garhi included Kritika Sharma, Gungun Sharma, and Sonali Sandotra. In boxing, Kashish Sharma (BBSVP), Anjali and Rashi Devi (HSS Kud) secured top spots.
