GANDERBAL, Sept 5: The District Ganderbal Rugby 7’s Championship 2025 concluded with great enthusiasm at Nirala Army Goodwill School, Mirgund Kangan, showcasing the rising passion for Rugby among local youth. Organized by the District Ganderbal Rugby Association in collaboration with the J&K Rugby Association and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, the two-day event was held from September 4 to 5.
Six teams competed across Senior, Junior and Sub-Junior categories in both boys’ and girls’ divisions. The tournament became a platform for young athletes to demonstrate skill, teamwork and sportsmanship, highlighting Ganderbal’s growing stature in the sports arena.
The closing ceremony was graced by Bilal Ahmad, Principal of the host school, as chief guest. M. Iqbal, Incharge District Ganderbal, J&K Sports Council, attended as guest of honour. Both applauded the participants and emphasized the transformative power of sports.
Organizing Secretary Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh announced plans to expand the event in future editions, aiming to establish Ganderbal as a key hub for rugby in the region. The event concluded with medal presentations, cheers from the crowd, and a renewed commitment to promoting rugby and youth engagement in the district.
