Display Your Talent 2017-18 begins at JU with Pomp & show

JAMMU, Sept 19: ‘Display Your Talent 2017-18’ commenced today with a huge fanfare at the University of Jammu, here.
‘Display Your Talent’ is an annual feature of the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu in which students from the affiliated Degree Colleges and University Departments participated in 33 different competitions of music, dance, literary, fine-arts and theatrical activities.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest and Mushtaq Kak, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee was the guest of honour at the inaugural function.
The inaugural programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by the dignitaries.
Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that though the Department of Students Welfare is not a teaching department, yet the training it imparts in shaping the overall personality of the students is commendable, he congratulated the students for their vast participation.
He asserted that the students are the ambassadors of the institute they come from and the University of Jammu is proud to have many such ambassadors who have made a mark at national and international level and most of them are the products of Display Your Talent.
Mr Kak shared his experience with the audience and remarked that Display Your Talent is an important event in the life of the students.
Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, in her welcome address expressed her gladness over the notable participation of the students this year, while Prof SK Pandita, Chairman Campus Culture Committee apprised the audience about the brief history of ‘Display Your Talent’ and Prof Kamal K Kapoor, Co-Chairman Campus Cultural Committee presented the formal vote of thanks.
Group Song Indian and Folk Instrumental Solo were conducted on the first day today.
In Group Song Indian, 18 teams participated in which Institute of Music & Fine Arts was declared 1st, Govt College for Women Gandhi Nagar was adjudged 2nd and Govt. College for Women Parade and Govt. MAM College jointly shared the 3rd position.
In Folk Instrumental Solo, Sachin Verma from GGM Science College was awarded the Certificate of Merit.
Arvind Kumar, Danny Sharma and Monu Kumar were the Judges and Dr. Shallu Sehgal was the teacher In-Charge for the event.
The events were coordinated by Dr. Anupama Vohra (Asso-ciate Dean Students Welfare), Dr. A.R. Manhas (Assistant Dean SW), Dr. Parmil Kumar (Assistant Dean SW), and Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor).
Manreet Kour, Kanika Sharma, Anjali Sharma, Pallvi Kunwer, Mohit, Suvidha, Sona Sharma, Aarti Katyal, Abhishek Sharma, Bharti Heer, Shivika Thakur and Divya Sharma did the hall management, while the sound was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur.
