KATRA, Feb 22: In the one day table tennis tournament of SMVDSB staff, organized as part of Sports Meet and staff welfare measures, 16 players representing various units of track and field and central office participated.
In the doubles summit clash, the pair of Dinesh Nanda and Ashok Kumar defeated Rahul Khajuria and Jagdish Chand in straight sets by (11-6, 11-8, 11-9) in 5-setter contest.
In the singles final, Rahul Khajuria defeated Abhishek Sharma by (11-7, 11-7, 11-9).
Before commencement of the championship, the players of the Shrine Board and officials took oath for fair play, maintaining tradition of sportsmanship and abiding by the rules and regulations of the sports. Dr M Kumar, Additional CEO Shrine Board was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, he said that various steps have been taken to encourage physical growth and mental ability of the employees which are essential components for all-round development of an individual, adding that sports is the best medium to achieve goals.
Ashok Kumar, Director Sports while giving account of various sports and allied activities conducted by the Shrine Board said that besides table tennis championship, SMVDSB has organized fencing, football, cricket tournaments, besides organizing yog asanas.
He further added that the sports wing is receiving all cooperation and encouragement from Chief Executive Officer and Shrine Board Authorities in popularizing activities and creating congenial sports atmosphere in the holy town of Katra.
