SRINAGAR, Sept 14: The Department of Youth Services and Sports started its scheduled activities of waters sports in famous Dal lake here today.
The long distance swimming event of Under-14 age group was won by Yawar Abbas of Boys High School Nandpora Srinagar, while as Mohammad Younis of the same school stood second and Saif Elahi of Middle School Nayidyaar Srinagar was declared third in the said event.
Similarly Aadil Hussain of Imamiya Public School Dal was declared first, Shehnawaz Hussain of BHS Nandpora Srinagar and Aabid Hussain of the same school remained second and third in Under-17 category of the long distance swimming event.
Director General of Youth Services and Sports, Jahangir Mir flagged off the contingent of 60 swimmers from various Government and Private Educational Institutions of Srinagar district and declared the five daylong Water Sports event open. On the remaining days of the Water Sports Event, School Children shall participate in Canoe Polo, Short and Long Distance Swimming, Canoeing, Kayaking and a special programme of orientation shall also be conducted for those student players who are taking interest in water sports.
Prominent among others who were present on the flag off ceremony included Deputy Director of Youth Services and Sports, Haji Mirza Hussain, Assistant Director Manjit Singh, DYSSO Srinagar, Balbir Singh and Publicity Officer of the Department, Azhar Hajini.
