Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Mar 13: National Seminar-cum-Exhibition on Kisan Mela Entrepreneurship Programme and Flower Show was organized by CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu in collaboration with Department of Floriculture, Jammu at CSIR-IIIM Chatha Farm, here today. Director, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Dr Ram Vishwakarma informed the audience about the aims and objectives of the Programme and also highlighted the achievement of the CSIR-IIIM, Jammu in J&K Aroma Arogya Gram (JAAG) project. He said that this event is organized annually to introduce latest advancements in the area of medicinal and aromatic plants aiming at improving the socioeconomic conditions of the State in general and farming community/growers in particular. He said that J&K State is ideally suited for the cultivation of high value medicinal and aromatic plants, nutraceutical flowers, bulbs and the seeds throughout the year, adding that cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants and floriculture has assumed greater significance as these high value cash crops apart from generating good income has huge employment potential for rural population of the State. The Programme was inaugurated by chief guest, Parvez Dewan, Advisor to Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed that there is a need for adopting improved verities of cash crops in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants to increase the yield and quality of the material. He lauded the efforts of CSIR-IIIM, Jammu in promoting the Floriculture and cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic plants in the country. Dr KK Dewan Sharma, Director, Department of Floriculture Jammu also appreciated the efforts of the CSIR-IIIM, Jammu for creating awareness among farmers, providing them opportunity to interact with the scientists and progressive grower and providing quality plating material of these high value cash crops from IIIM’s experimental farms. Detailed presentation and demonstration was held for the farmers and progressive growers in the area of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, intercropping of medicinal and aromatic plants in agriculture crops, value addition of Medicinal and aromatics plants, cultivation of high value floriculture and funding opportunities for various stake holders for cultivation of medicinal and aromatics plants. Presentation and demonstrations was given by Dr Suresh Chandra CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Dr Narendra Kumar CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Dr Parvaiz Qazi CSIR- IIIM Jammu, Dr HP Singh, CSIR-CIMAP Lucknow (UP), Dr Rakesh Kumar, CSIR-IHBT Palampur (HP), Dr O P Sharma, Binoy Kumar and Govind Sharma, progressive grower. The vote of thanks was presented by Er Abdul Rahim, Head PME.
