Woman power to fore at Maruti Suzuki National Super League

Excelsior Sports Correspondent DEHRADUN, Mar 13: It’s woman power to the fore at the Maruti Suzuki National Super League TSD Rally Championship (MS-NSRC), which will begin at Dehradun tomorrow. Bani Yadav, the rising star among women rallyists of India, is planning to give a tough fight to her male counterparts at the Championship. The first round of this brand-new national rally championship will begin with The Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally. Bani is the only woman rallyist of the country to rank high at the Indian Rally Championship (IRC) and the FIA Asia Cup (2015). Over the last two years, she has won the trophy for the best woman rallyist at top motorsport events of the country. Hailing from Gurgaon, Bani will drive for Team Maruti at The Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally and will compete in a Maruti Gypsy. The rally will be flagged off from Dehradun by Chief Minister, Harish Rawat. This is the first time that Bani will participate in the Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format of rallying. This is a highly safe format of motorsport. The other women rallyists participating in The Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally include Simranjit Kaur and Hrshita Monga of Chandigarh, Savita Yadav and Meena Gupta of Delhi and Chitra Venkatessa of Coimbatore. RS Kalsi, Executive Director (Sales &Marketing) of Maruti Suzuki said that many skilled women drivers are now coming into motorsport. “We are very happy to see greater women’s empowerment in the automobile sector. In order to encourage women rallyists, we have a special Coup De Dame trophy at all the motorsport events of Maruti Suzuki. This trophy is given to the best women’s team at the event,” said Mr Kalsi. A total of 35 teams are participating in The Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally. The rally is being organized in collaboration with the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB). Uttarakhand Secretary Tourism, Shailesh Bagauli said that The Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally sends out a very positive message about adventure tourism in the state. Simranjit Kaur, the rallyist from Chandigarh, said she is taking part in a motorsport event for the first time. Simranjit’s navigator is Hrshita Monga, also from Chandigarh. Savita Yadav and Meena Gupta of Delhi are also among the first-time rallyists at the Rally. The event is being organized by Himalayan Motorsport, the top motorsport club of India. Vijay Parmar, the president of Himalayan Motorsport, said that all the six rallies which will be part of the TSD Super League will be open to both professionals and amateurs.
