JAMMU, Nov 25: Minister for Higher Education Mohammad Akbar Lone on Monday underscored the need to organize declamation contests in the State as it provides opportunity for budding youth to show their hidden talent. He said talent is present among the youth of the State but need is to channelize it in a proper way.
The Minister was speaking at a function organized by the Department of Higher Education in connection with Preliminary Round 4th Annual Inter State Northern Zone Declamation Contest for Silver Rolling Trophy instituted by his Excellency the Governor N N Vohra at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
Mr Lone said that this event is a visionary step towards achieving the objective of socio-cultural intermingling of the State as this cultural and academic exchange will pave way for fostering a bonding and understanding between academia of the participating States. He said through these Inter-State Declamation Contests, students as well as the faculty from the North Zone Institutes of Higher Education will be provided with an opportunity to interact with each other through a vibrant platform for interchange of ideas.
The Minister said that the teacher can play an important role in making such events successful by giving it a practical shape.
Secretary, Higher Education Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad who was guest of honour also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of Silver Rolling Trophy for Inter-State Northern Zone Declamation Contest.
The Secretary congratulated the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar for organizing three contests successfully. Sheikh Mushtaq hoped that best students will be selected in this contest.
Earlier, the Principal of the College Dr. Kiran Bakshi presented brief note on the event.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the students of the College.
Later, the Minister released College Magazine “Chandra Bhaga” along with a calendar.
Director Colleges T A Kawsoo, faculty members, intellectuals, teachers and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
