JAMMU, Mar 25: Chemistry Department outplayed Library Science by straight 2-0 sets in the Carrom event and sailed into the next round of the Inter-Department Tournament (Men), being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu at gymnasium hall, here today.
During the matches, Mukesh Sharma beat Mohd Hassan of Library Science, whereas, Abhishek Sharma of Chemistry Department thrashed Summit Sharma and paved way for their departments to advance to the next round of the event vis-à-vis tournament.
In Badminton, Chemistry Department beat Library Science by 2-1 sets, while Mathematics Department thrashed Sociology Department by straight 2-0 sets and registered their birth in the next round.
In the first match, Amarjeet Singh of Chemistry Department routed Mohd Hassan, while Sunil Kumar of Library Science trounced Bhupinder Singh and equalized the game. In the doubles and decider game, Amarjeet Singh and Bhupinder Singh of Chemistry Department outplayed Sunil Kumar and Vijay Kumar of Library Science and clinched the game by 2-1 sets and advanced to the next round.
In second match, Amit Jasrotia of Mathematics Department routed Rajneesh Kumar, whereas, Sushil Kumar beat Sumit Gupta of Sociology Department.
Meanwhile, MCA Department, Law School, Economics Department and Commerce Department got walkover, as their respective teams failed to report to the venue.
In Chess, Chemistry Department beat Economics Department by 2-1 sets. In the first match, Abhishek of Chemistry Department lost to Moninder Kumar, whereas in the second match, Mukesh beat Amarjit Singh of Economics Department and equalized the score. In the decider match, Mukesh thrashed Moninder and paved way for his department to enter into the next round.
In another match, Mathematics Department thrashed Commerce Department by 2-1 sets. Akhil Sharma lost to Rajat Sharma of Commerce Department, whereas, Samardeep Singh of Mathematics Department beat Satpal Singh of Commerce Department and equalized the game. In the decider game, Samandeep Singh beat Rajat Sharma and registered win.
In Table Tennis, Law Department registered 2-1 sets victory over Commerce Department and sailed into the next round of the tournament. Abdul Salam of Law Department beat Rajat Sharma by 2-1, 11-7, 9-11 and 11-3 points, whereas, Vinay Kumar lost to Shabir Hussain of Commerce Department by 2-0, 8-11 and 7-11 points. In the doubles and decider match, Abdul Salam and Vinay Kumar of Law Department outplayed Rajat and Shabir by 2-0, 11-4 and 11-3 points.
In Volleyball, Geography Department beat MCA Department by 2-0 sets, whereas, Commerce Department, Economics Department, Geology Department and Business School got walkover as their respective opponents failed to report to the venue.
The matches were officiated by Amit Sharma, Taranpal, Suresh Kumar, Aman Sambyal, Maxim Singh, Mulkh Raj Sharma, Ajay Sharma and Rakesh Rahi.
The tournament is being organized under the supervision of Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
