JAMMU, Feb 16: The two day Asmita City Wushu League Championship kicked off today in Jammu, with approximately 300 girls from various clubs and districts participating. The event is part of the Khelo India initiative by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), providing a platform to empower women athletes.
This is the third edition of the Wushu City League Championship hosted by the Wushu Association of J&K. The event was inaugurated by Kuldeep Handoo, who commended the Khelo India Women’s League for revolutionizing women’s sports in India. He noted that female athletes have excelled in recent international competitions, including the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, with women outshining men in recent Wushu events.
Maqsood Rather, Joint Secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K, delivered the welcome address. Observers from SAI, including Touseef Ahmed (Badminton Coach) and Prateek (Volleyball Coach), also attended the event. The closing ceremony will take place tomorrow.
