Artistic Gymnastics reintroduced in Jammu

JAMMU, May 17: In a major boost to sports in the region, Artistic Gymnastics has been reintroduced in Jammu, offering young gymnasts a chance to train and compete at national and international levels.
The Gymnastics Association of J&K (GAJK), under the leadership of president Kiran Wattal, has spearheaded the initiative with strong backing from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nusrat Gul.
Announcing the development, Wattal said that qualified coach Ravinder Singh will train budding gymnasts at the Gymnastics Academy, MA Stadium, Jammu. Training will be open to children aged 7–15 years on a first-come, first-served basis, with an initial intake of 10 trainees. Registration begins May 19 from 4 to 6 PM. Interested candidates must bring their Aadhaar card, a recent photograph, and a parental consent letter.
Wattal noted that despite the availability of expert coaches, Artistic Gymnastics had been absent from Jammu for years due to unknown reasons. Its revival, he said, would provide long-overdue opportunities to local talent and help them compete on larger platforms.
GAJK aims to build on the region’s recent sporting success by identifying young talent, enhancing training facilities, and providing expert coaching. Wattal reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to developing gymnastics in J&K and envisioned a future where local athletes shine on the national and international stage.
This initiative marks a renewed chapter in Jammu’s sporting landscape, paving the way for excellence in gymnastics.
