Army organises Vilgam Village Games Festival

HANDWARA, Jan 14: Rashtriya Rifles 15 Battalion organised ‘Vilgam Village Games Festival- 2021’on the occasion of Army Day, here today.
The festival was organised for the people of villages including Ramhal, Rajwar and Magam wherein 1500 locals along with 50 COVID -19 warriors (ASHA workers) and village Panches and Sarpanches participated.
Ex-servicemen of the area also graced the festival. The wreath laying was done by the ex-servicemen at the War Memorial of the battalion to pay tributes to those who sacrificed their lives for their motherland.
The Games Festival was inaugurated by the Commander Eight Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier Neeraj Sharma by lighting up the beacon of unity. A total of 21 village games including ‘Piddu Garam’, ‘Spoon Race’, ‘Gilli Danda’, ‘Arm wrestling’, ‘Wushu’ and ‘Karate’ were organised in the festival for kids, youth and the elders of the villages.
The Panches and Sarpanches also showcased their strength in the game of ‘Tug of War’ by breaking all the barriers of age and proved that age is just a number of counting. After the games, Priyanka Sharma awarded the frontline warriors of COVID-19 for their selfless contribution during the pandemic.
Brig Neeraj Sharma awarded the winners of the village games with prizes. In this event along with entertainment and games, books were also distributed to the NEET, IIT and NDA aspirants to encourage them to excel in the competitive exams.
Meanwhile, a medical camp was also organised during the festival for the routine check-up of the villagers. Block Medical Officer, Vilgam was also present in the event and provided his esteemed service during the medical camp.
