DRASS, June 15: The week-long Summer Carnival 2025, organized by the Forever in Operations Division of the Indian Army, concluded today at the Major Vishwanathan Stadium in Drass, Ladakh. The carnival, which commenced on June 9, saw enthusiastic participation from youth across the remote border villages of Ladakh, celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage through traditional sports.
The event featured spirited competitions in traditional sports such as Horse Polo, Archery and Tent Pegging. The Horse Polo contests saw participation from nine men’s teams and two women’s teams, while the Archery competition featured 10 men’s teams and two women’s teams. The Tent Pegging events showcased impressive skill and agility from horse riders across the region.
A landmark moment of the carnival was the introduction of Women’s Horse Polo, a first-of-its-kind initiative that drew widespread appreciation from both participants and spectators alike; signaling a progressive step towards greater inclusion in Ladakh’s sporting traditions.
The closing ceremony was honoured by the presence of the Brigade Commander of the 56 Mountain Brigade, who lauded the participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
The champions of the carnival were: Himalayan Red Team in Men’s Horse Polo, Brigade Club in Women’s Horse Polo, Chums Archers in Men’s Archery and Purig Team in Women’s Archery.
