JAMMU, Sept 7: Ambala team notched the WAC Inter AFS Basket Ball Championship by thrashing its opponent Jammu basketball team by 32-33 in the final match being played at Air Force School.
Jammu and Pathankote bagged runner-up and second runner-up positions in the championship respectively.
In the championship, seven Air Force schools of Western Air Command participated—Pathankot, Ambala, Palam, Hindon, Sarsawa, Chandigarh and the host team.
On the valedictory function, Air Commodore Nitin Sathe, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station was the chief guest, who distributed medals and trophies to the winners and certificates to all the participants.
In his address, he said that sports provides an excellent pathway for young people to learn new skills, become more confident and maximize their potential.
He praised the efforts of the Jammu team Captain Ujjawal Kumar, who was declared the player of the tournament.
Vikesh Sandhal, Principal, Air force School briefed the gathering about the format and the matches played in the championship. In total 11 matches were played between the teams apart from the final, he informed.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Group Captain S Pati, C Adm O, Air Force Station in presence of Flt Lt Karishma Sethi, OIC, Air Force School, Principal and students.
