POONCH, Oct 3: Army located at Lower Krishna Ghati conducted two days Rural Sports Mela to engage the youth and develop spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
The purpose for organising such event was to encourage the local youth to take up sports as a career and to display their potential in sports.
In order to make the event interesting and competitive, the grass roots of the democracy i.e the panchayats and the Sarpanches were actively involved in the whole process from identification of local sports events to conduct of games thereby channelizing the energies of youth and children.
The various local sporting events in the Mela were organised amongst participants from villages of Haveli tehsil, namely Daradullian, Jhullas, Salotri, Salani and Ghani.
One team from each village was fielded by respective Sarpanchs. The events were finalized after detailed research of the traditional games and sports prevalent in the area with an aim to give boost to the sports and games associated with the State. The complete event was enjoyed thoroughly by all age groups.
The event was attended by large number of villagers, school children and eminent citizens of the nearby villages.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Sarpanch.
