JAMMU, Jan 28: Karatekas of Jammu and Kashmir Renmei Goju Ryu Karate-Do Federation brought laurels by delivering an impressive performance at the 3rd President Cup National Karate Championship, held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The championship was conducted under the aegis of National Karate Bodies and witnessed participation from across the country.
The team competed under the supervision of Shihan Sanjeev Dewan, Chief Instructor (India) and Founder Member of the Amateur Karate-Do Association of J&K. All participating Karatekas were trained by Shihan Dewan, whose guidance played a key role in the team’s success.
In the 7-8 years category, Kartik Verma won a bronze medal in Kata and Kumite (individual). In the 13 years category, Shiresha Kirn Nirmal secured a bronze medal in Kata (individual). In the 13-14 years team category, Sejal, Yavanika and Shiresha Kirn Nirmal clinched a silver medal in Team Kata. In the Above 25 years (85+ kg) category, Maqsood Hussain, Head Constable in J&K Police, won gold medals in both Kata and Kumite, while Mayank Resutra earned silver medals in Kata and Kumite and Toshan Dhiman bagged a bronze medal in Kumite.
Maqsood Hussain was also honoured with the Best Karateka Award for overall excellence in the Male Kumite category. Overall, the J&K team won 11 medals, marking a proud moment for the UT.
The organisers felicitated parents of medal winners-Deepika Choudhary, Kiran Nirmal, Ram Lal and Kamal Kishore-who are Army officials posted at Army Cantonment, Usman Dwar, Nagrota, Jammu. The Commanding Officer of Usman Dwar Army Cantt also congratulated the medal winners and appreciated parents for encouraging sports participation.
