JU conducts workshop on Elimination of Violence against Women

JAMMU, Nov 24: In observance of the “International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women,” the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, conducted a workshop for students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Ghou Manhasan, here today.
Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, delivered the keynote lecture on “Legal Safeguards regarding Violence against Women.” She highlighted various forms of violence and discussed legal protections under the POSH Act, Child Marriage Restraint Act, Dowry Prohibition Act, Domestic Violence Act and POCSO Act. Prof. Nayyar also emphasized the importance of education, gender sensitization and building confidence and creativity to recognize rights and responsibilities in society.
Kuldeep, Senior Lecturer at GHSS, applauded the initiative and stressed the need to inculcate gender sensitivity in students from an early age. The event saw enthusiastic participation from teachers, staff, and students. Dr. Saranjit Kaur and Diksha Sharma coordinated the proceedings and Dr. Disha Sharma delivered the vote of thanks.
