
*Over 400 master athletes to participate

JAMMU, Nov 5: A spirit of sportsmanship and vitality filled the air at M A Stadium here today as the 2nd Jammu & Kashmir Masters Games were officially inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma.
The grand sporting event is being organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Masters Games Association (JKMGA)-affiliated with the Super Masters Games and Sports Federation (India).
The inaugural ceremony witnessed an impressive march past and oath ceremony, showcasing the vibrant energy of more than 400 master players and 70 officials from across the Union Territory. The gathering included several former national and international players who have returned to the field to inspire the next generation.
The event was graced by guest of honour Ranjit Singh Sambyal, Principal of the Police Technical Training Institute Samba, and Capt Murti Gupta, ex-Army Officer, president J&K Lawn Tennis Association.
Spanning five days, the Masters Games will feature a diverse range of sports disciplines including athletics, handball, kho-kho, table tennis, powerlifting, weightlifting, yoga, roller hockey, pickleball, kabaddi, tinnikot, lawn tennis, badminton, basketball, chess, football, hockey, swimming, rope skipping, and tennis ball cricket.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma emphasized that the Masters Games not only encourage healthy competition but also promote a balanced, active, and positive lifestyle among citizens of all ages. He noted that such initiatives play a vital role in fostering discipline, fitness, and camaraderie across communities.
Ranjit Singh Chib, former SSP, international handball player, and president of JKMGA, highlighted the Association’s mission to promote sports among individuals aged 30 and above.
The event proceedings were conducted gracefully by Mamta Bajaj, vice president of JKMGA, whose enthusiasm and energy kept the audience engaged.
Prominent dignitaries present on the occasion included secretary general Neete Kaur, treasurer Romesh Sharma, Vinay Saraf, Som Raj Gupta, Kuljeet Singh, Sanjay Puri, Prabal Sharma, Rameshwar Singh Manhas, Rakesh Singh Salathia, and several other distinguished members of the sports fraternity.
