JAMMU, July 30: STC Jammu emerged as the champions of the Junior UT Basketball Championship held at Katra. The tournament was organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Basketball Association (JKBA) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council.
A total of 20 teams participated in this exciting championship, featuring more than 200 players—both boys and girls—from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir. STC Jammu showcased exceptional skill and teamwork to claim the winners’ trophy in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.
The runners-up trophy in the girls’ category was secured by District Reasi, while District Samba finished as first runners-up in the boys’ category. District Kathua (RBC) earned the second runners-up position for both boys and girls, rounding out the top teams.
Additional CEO SMVDSB, Alok Maurya was the chief guest during the occasion. Other dignitaries included Dhruv, Director Sports SMVDSB, Deputy CEO Pawan Goswami and former coach Mohd Shafi. Prominent JKBA members such as President Dr. Vikram Handa, Vice President Ashok Jamwal, and General Secretary Aman Sharma were also present. Senior Basketball Coach Sushma Jamwal served as the special observer from the J&K Sports Council.
The matches were officiated by a panel of qualified referees and coaches, including Sachin Dogra (SAI), Rohan Kundal, Manoj Kumar, Vaneet Pangotra, and others, ensuring fair play throughout the competition. The tournament witnessed keenly contested matches and displayed great talent from the region’s youth basketball players.
