SRINAGAR, Apr 22: Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) mourned the death of Abdul Qayoom Khan, a former Ranji Trophy cricketer, who passed away after a brief illness. He was aged 70.
As per the statement issued, Khan, a fiery fast bowler, represented Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy from 1968 to 1980, playing 16 first-class matches and taking 32 wickets. His contributions to the sport, particularly in the fast-bowling department, were widely respected.
After retiring from playing, Khan turned to coaching and served as an NIS-qualified coach at Kashmir University, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of many current cricketers. He also worked as a selector for the JKCA Senior Selection Committee and was involved in ground maintenance at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar as a curator.
The JKCA staff, led by Majid Dar, Incharge Cricket Development, Kashmir, attended the funeral and extended their condolences to Khan’s family. The cricket fraternity also expressed deep sorrow over his passing, remembering his dedication and service to the game.
